Interests

Sauze D'oulx, Italy 1981 and 1983 very popular with English skiers, well priced.

The end of the first week of ski lessons, the Sportinia ski race.

More grim determination than style!

San Martino, Italy 1982 smallish resort mostly Italian skiers.

Yes, those ski are bent! I lost it completely and crashed into some snow covered rocks. The ski hire shop was not impressed!

Note the cool shades and moustache!

Mayrhofen, Austria 1984

Two different ski areas, access from the town was not great, smallish and a bit crowded

La Plagne, France. 1985 & 2008

In 1985 this holiday included two day's skiing at Les Arcs, France.

There is now a cable car link between La Plagne and Les Arc, but In 2008 it was out of action, still there is plenty of of skiing to keep you happy in La Plagne.

Soll, Austria 1986

Poor access from town, bottlenecks at times, but linked to other resorts to give loads of runs.

Don't you just love those racing ski pants!

Breckenridge 1999

Peak 8 Panorama

Snow sculpture competition

We skied here and other Colorado resorts in 1999, 2000 and 2003 including: Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapaho Basin

Breckenridge Colorado USA 1999

At Least Zaryn made it halfway up the mountain!

She skied here from the ski lift drop off and we went on down together in a sort of tandem snowplough!

When in Colorado in 1999, we went on a Skidoo trip which was great fun, but not for the faint hearted, some of the tracks were barely wider than the skidoos with a steep drop of several hundred feet on one side and no guard rails! all this and you have do about 40mph just to keep up with the guide!

 Vail, Colorado USA 2003

No photo trickery here, the night before we went to Vail, they had 16 inches of snow!

An excellent day was had by all.

Breckenridge Colorado USA 2003

Not perfect, but my style has improved a bit since 1981!

Verbier, Switzerland 2005 (Vannessa Hotel)

One week only, but the conditions were excellent, very little queuing, but a little pricey!

Obergurgl, Austria 2006 (Hotel Crystal)

Not the cheapest resort, or the biggest, but excellent snow and the best hotel food ever!

Linked to Hochgurgl by the Top Express gondola to provide a reasonable skiing area of mainly red and blue runs. lift pass can be extended to cover a day in nearby Solden for a small fee.

Alpe D'Huez France 2007 (Club Hotel Les Cimes)

The snow was a little lacking lower down the first couple of days, but then about 12" fell on the third day and the rest of the week was fine. The town itself wasn't too bad with quite a few shops and places to eat or drink. Our hotel on the budget side of the market, but at the price we paid you couldn't complain! This was my first "boys trip" and I really enjoyed it!

The best resort so far? Breckenridge!

The most fun trip? La Plagne 2008

To anyone thinking of skiing in the USA, I would highly recommend Breckenridge, the resort is large and the town itself is attractive and interesting, nightlife seems a bit poor but, if like me you prefer to get a full day's skiing rather than party all night and waste half a day with a hangover, then this is the place to go! The runs are extensive and well looked after, the lift system is efficient and there is no pushing and shoving in lift queues (not that I saw many queues!) like you get in certain European countries. An added bonus is that there are many other excellent resorts within a short distance such as Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapaho Basin. These can be easily got to for a days skiing by organised coach trip, bus, or better still, with a hire car. You have to get the hire car from Denver Airport on the way in as there doesn't seem to be any hire car depots in Breckenridge. It's about a 2 hour drive from Denver Airport to Breckenridge and between 20 minutes and 1 hour fifty minutes to reach any of the other resorts from Breckenridge. If you like the thought of trying out a ski-mobile, then the day trip is well worth a go, I wouldn't recommend it to the faint hearted, but for anyone who loves a bit of speed this is the trip for you!

The Trip to La Plagne in February 2008 organised by Bontour and Channel 103 with a direct flight from Jersey was a great success, Lots of activities available for those that wanted them, great company, good skiing and lots of fun.

The Hotel Terra Nova provided good ski-in ski-out accommodation, good rooms and excellent food.
